Interested in relationship counselling? Here's some key things to know:
How do I know if couples counselling is what I need?
You can book a free 15 minute consultation call to talk to Rinat or one of our therapists, to ask any questions you may have and decide if it's the right choice for you.
Do you go to sessions together or separate?
You and your partner will generally attend your first session together. After that, you might choose to see the counsellor by yourself or continue together.
What kind of questions will the counsellor ask?
In your first appointment, you can expect a lot of history-taking. Many couples therapy approaches believe that our earlier experiences are formative and tend to factor significantly into our adult relationships.
The therapist will guide you both through a series of questions ranging from how you met and why you chose each other to details about your parent's relationship and your experiences in childhood.
What can you expect in a couple's therapy session?
- The therapist creates a sense of safety by getting to know you and your partner. They work actively and collaboratively with you to help you understand yourself and your partner better
- The therapist focuses on moment-to-moment shifts in your face, body, and voice, and ask you to pay attention to these as a couple.
- The therapist creates experiences similar to those troubling your relationship and help you work through them in real time during the session.
